Coming Soon: A True Desktop View for Your Encrypted Vault
List and grid views cover most people's needs — but some of you have asked for something that feels more like a real computer: folders and files you can drag anywhere you want, positions that stay put, a vault that looks and behaves like a desktop. We're testing exactly that internally. It isn't in the live product yet, and here's an honest look at where it stands.
What "Desktop view" is meant to be
The idea is simple: a third view mode alongside List and Grid, where folders and files become icons you can freely drag and drop anywhere on the screen — not locked into rows or a grid. Drop a folder in a corner, keep your most-used files front and center, arrange things the way you'd arrange icons on an actual computer desktop. Positions are meant to be remembered, so the layout you build stays the way you left it next time you open the vault.
Why we haven't shipped it yet
It works in our internal test environment, but "works in testing" and "ready for everyone" aren't the same bar, especially for something spatial and drag-based that has to behave well on both a mouse and a touchscreen. Free positioning introduces real edge cases — what happens with hundreds of files, how it behaves on a small phone screen, how selection and right-click actions interact with dragging — that we want solid before it reaches every account, not after.
Where you can already see it
| Environment | Status |

This is a normal part of how we build — new features spend time in an internal test environment against real usage patterns before they reach the product everyone relies on. We'd rather take that time than ship something rough to an encrypted storage product people trust with years of files.
How it's meant to fit with List and Grid
Desktop view isn't meant to replace the views you already use — it's a third option alongside List (dense, sortable, best for finding a specific file fast) and Grid (best for browsing images). Desktop view is for a different instinct entirely: spatial memory. Some people remember "it's in the bottom-left corner" far more easily than a filename or a date, and that's the itch this view is built to scratch, not a replacement for the other two.
No promises on timing
We're deliberately not attaching a launch date to this one. It ships when it's solid across devices and file counts, not on a fixed schedule. If that changes, it'll show up here and in the vault itself — not as a surprise toggle that appears one day. In the meantime, List and Grid views cover the day-to-day, and neither is going anywhere once Desktop view does arrive.
List and Grid views are ready right now.
Desktop view is still in testing, but your vault — encrypted, zero-knowledge, one-time payment — is ready today.
