The LifetimeCloud Android App: What It Does and How to Install It

While the Mac, Windows and iPhone apps are still in development, the Android app is already out — as a direct APK download, not through the Play Store. Here's what it gives you and how to install it without warning bells going off.

What the app actually is

The Android app wraps the same encrypted vault interface you use in a browser into a native app shell — same upload, preview, folder and family-sharing features, same client-side AES-256-GCM encryption, now with its own icon and a full-screen experience instead of a browser tab. It behaves like any other app on your phone: it appears in your app drawer, runs offline-tolerant caching where possible, and doesn't need a browser open in the background.

Why it's a direct APK and not on the Play Store yet

Google Play review timelines and policy requirements are a separate, slower process from shipping the app itself. Rather than waiting for that before making the app available at all, LifetimeCloud publishes the APK directly — the same install method used by plenty of legitimate apps (F-Droid, Signal's website build, most beta releases) before or instead of a store listing.

Installing it

  1. Download the APK directly from the roadmap section of the LifetimeCloud homepage on your Android device.
  2. Android will likely warn that installing apps from outside the Play Store is blocked by default — this is a standard OS setting, not a red flag specific to this app. You'll be prompted to allow your browser (or Files app) to install unknown apps, and can restrict that permission to just that one app afterward.
  3. Open the downloaded file and confirm the install.
  4. Log in with your existing account — nothing about your vault or encryption changes between browser and app; it's the same account, same files, same key.

Because your encryption key is derived from your password on-device regardless of platform, using the Android app doesn't change your security model at all — see the zero-knowledge encryption guide for what stays true across every client.

What's coming next

Mac, Windows and iPhone native apps are in active development, with the iPhone app planned to include camera roll backup and Files app integration. Until those ship, every platform — including iPhone today — can install LifetimeCloud as a full-screen app without any app store: see our guide on installing LifetimeCloud as an app for how that works on iOS, desktop, and any browser in the meantime.

Your vault, in your pocket.

Download the Android app directly — no store, no wait, same zero-knowledge encryption as everywhere else.
